PARENT HANDBOOK

Mission: My mission as a daycare provider is to provide a nurturing, educational experience for every child. I will treat every child with love and respect, as if the child was my own! This is my business, and I take that very seriously.

My experience: I have always loved being around small children. While growing up and as an adult, you would find me hanging with the children instead of adults. That is the reason that I became a teacher. I taught freshman and sophomore students for 1 year at West High and 2 years at Maize High. However, I learned that I wanted to be around the small children instead of teenagers. I have plenty of experience watching small children. I have 3 younger siblings who I helped care for as they grew. Also, I have watched my cousins as well (the youngest is about 20 months now). As a teen, I babysat. Furthermore, I spent the summer of 2007 watching a 7 and 10 year old at their house. Moreover, I substitute taught the Spring of 2006 for Valley Center elementary schools. I subbed for grades 1-5! I am CPR/First Aid/AED certified as well.

Discipline: Children will not be disrespected when it comes to discipline. I’ve outlined my policy:

1. Get down to child’s level.
2. Set clear limits.
3. Consistency.
4. Be positive.
5. Deny privileges.
6. Timeout.

Meals/Snacks: Children will be fed breakfast, lunch, and two snacks if around for a full day. The food/snacks will be nutritious and aligned to Kansas Daycare standards. Children will not be forced to eat. Any allergies will be taken into account.

Items for daycare: You will need to provide certain items for your child’s day:

1 change of clothes (more if potty-training or an infant)
Diapers/wipes if used
Training pants if used
A pillow for nap-time if your child would like to use one (I will provide a blanket.)
*A coat/jacket if necessary for the day

*A swimsuit for summer months

Educational activities: I will work on age-appropriate educational activities with your child. Daily activities include school preparation exercises (ABC, 123, colors, shapes, writing, seasons, etc.), story time, arts and crafts, outdoor play, naptime, and more.

Payment: You only pay for the days I work. Accounts are settled weekly unless stated otherwise in the payment contract. If parents pick up early, full pay is expected.

Paperwork: Parents are required to fill out all necessary paperwork and consent forms. These include a medical emergency release form, medical history and immunization records, and a payment contract. Other forms may need to be filled out on an individual basis. If you are moving from another daycare, the paperwork transfers over with the exception of the contract.

Drills: We will conduct monthly fire and tornado drills.

Pets: I have a dog. She is a miniature dachshund. She will bark at times. She is gentle with the children, but she really prefers to hang out by herself. She has never attempted to bite anyone.

Payment contracts: You will need to sign a payment contract. This is a legally binding document. If a check is returned, a 30.00 charge will be added to your account. If payment is not made on time, you child be not be allowed to be in daycare until your account is settled.

Advanced Notice: I will require that you notify me at least two weeks in advance if you are no longer needing care. If you do not do so, I will charge you for those two weeks.

Parent Handbook: This handbook may change. If so, I will give notice of any changes.
